Rafael Nadal survives his opening match at the Olympic tennis tournament in Roland Garros and makes the early duel with Novak Djokovic in the 2nd round perfect.
The apparently not quite fit 38-year-old Spaniard beat the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics 1:6, 6:3, 6:4.
Nadal could have won his opening match in two sets. After trailing 2:5, the 22-time Grand Slam winner came back in the second set, but then had to concede the set on his own serve. Nadal then did not let the break lead of 3:2 in the deciding set slip away.
Again and again, the fans on the Philippe-Chatrier court spurred on the crowd favorite with shouts of "Rafa, Rafa". Nadal will also have the crowd on his side on Monday against Djokovic. In this condition, however, Nadal, who is suffering from thigh problems and is also involved in the doubles alongside Carlos Alcaraz, will have a tough time against the 24-time Grand Slam winner from Serbia.
