The New Jersey Devils beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 thanks to a strong first period (3-0) and win two games in a row for the first time since January 25.
The Swiss players did well. Nico Hischier put the Devils ahead in the first period. And after Columbus closed the gap to 2:3 in the second period, Timo Meier put the Devils back on track with the game-winner to make it 4:2.
"That was an extremely important win for us," Timo Meier said on NHL.com. "It's good to get two wins in a row again. Now we have to build on that."
The Columbus Blue Jackets are currently challenging the New Jersey Devils for 3rd place in the Metropolitan Division. The top three teams in each division qualify for the playoffs. Columbus is again six points behind New Jersey, but still has two games in hand.
The other Swiss players in the NHL did not score. Nino Niederreiter, relegated to the third forward line in Winnipeg, won 2-1 with the Jets against the New York Rangers, while Pius Suter was unable to prevent the Canucks from losing 4-2 at home to Montreal in Vancouver's fourth line. Kevin Fiala and the Los Angeles Kings beat the New York Islanders 4-1 for their third win in a row. And for the fourth time in a row, the Nashville Predators won without the injured Roman Josi, this time 3:2 away in San Jose. Nevertheless, Nashville's deficit to the playoff places is an almost unassailable 13 points. Janis Moser lost 4-1 with the Tampa Bay Lightning in Carolina.
