With the exception of the injured Roman Josi, all Swiss players are in action in the NHL on Wednesday night. Nino Niederreiter and Philipp Kurashev are among the scorers.
Nino Niederreiter scored his third goal of the season in the Winnipeg Jets' 4-3 overtime win over the Minnesota Wild. The Jets initially surrendered a 2-0 lead and trailed 2-3 at the start of the final period. The Grisons forward then equalized the game in overtime, in which Kyle Connor scored the decisive goal after just 46 seconds to secure Winnipeg the extra point.
Kurashev wins in Swiss duel
Philipp Kurashev was also able to celebrate a goal. The Olten forward scored his second goal of the season in the San Jose Sharks' 3:4 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. He reduced the deficit to 2:3 in the Swiss duel with Kevin Fiala in the 38th minute. In the final third, Kurashev set up the 3:3 equalizer on the power play. However, it was not enough for San Jose to secure their third win of the season in their tenth game despite a significantly better shot ratio (41:14).
Akira Schmid was able to celebrate a win. The goalie from Emmental made 21 saves in the Vegas Golden Knights' 6-3 away win against the Carolina Hurricanes, enabling his team to catch up. The visitors trailed 2:3 at the start of the final period before turning the game in their favor.
Devils' winning streak snapped
The evening was less pleasing for the Swiss trio at the New Jersey Devils. After eight wins in a row, the winning streak of the team led by captain Nico Hischier came to an abrupt end. Three days after the 4:3 overtime win at home against the Colorado Avalanche, the team had no chance in the rematch in Denver. The Devils were already 5-0 down at half-time before they reduced the deficit to 4-5 with four goals in the space of just over four minutes.
But then Timo Meier took a penalty that led to a 6:4 lead for the home team. Prior to that, the Appenzell forward had set up the Devils' third goal in a wonderful team play with Hischier. In the end, Colorado clearly prevailed 8:4. Jonas Siegenthaler finished the game with a minus-1 rating, Hischier was plus-1 and Meier was even.
Suter's Blues still in a slump
Pius Suter also suffered a defeat despite scoring a goal. The Zurich forward lost 2:5 at home with the St. Louis Blues against the Detroit Red Wings. Suter made the decisive pass for the hosts' 2:4 goal. St. Louis lost for the fifth time in a row.
Lian Bichsel celebrated victories with the Dallas Stars (1:0 against Washington) and Janis Moser with the Tampa Bay Lightning (5:2 in Nashville). Roman Josi was still missing with the Predators due to injury.
