Nino Niederreiter is still on a high in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets. The New Jersey Devils win, but lose Jonas Siegenthaler.
Niederreiter celebrated his seventh win in a row with the Winnipeg Jets. The Chur forward played a key role in the 3-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in front of his home crowd. 41.1 seconds before the end of the first period, he was responsible for the 1:0 in the power play and also had a hand in Neal Pionk's 2:0 in the 24th minute, also scored in overtime.
Niederreiter scored two points in a game for the sixth time this season and now has 14 goals and 15 assists. He was named the second-best player of the game. With 79 points from 55 games, Winnipeg is No. 1 in the league, with the Washington Capitals even better in terms of points lost.
The New Jersey Devils squandered a 2-0 lead at the Pittsburgh Penguins - both goals were scored by Jack Hughes - but won the penalty shootout. Timo Meier from Appenzell decided the game with his 14th penalty. However, the Devils paid dearly for the victory.
Jonas Siegenthaler retired injured in the first period and could only leave the ice with help. An exact diagnosis is still pending, but according to head coach Sheldon Keefe he will "certainly miss some time". The 27-year-old from Zurich has received the second most ice time of all New Jersey defensemen in the current championship. Captain Nico Hischier is also currently injured, missing the Devils' fourth game in a row.
Pius Suter returned to winning ways with Vancouver after two losses. The Canucks defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 at home, with Jake DeBrusk playing a big part in the win with a goal and an assist. Suter remained without a goal. The Dallas Stars with Lian Bichsel lost 1-2 at the Anaheim Ducks, ending a run of five wins.
