Niklas Hartweg finishes just outside the top 15 at the start of his biathlon season.
The 25-year-old from Schwyz, who missed the relay competitions in Östersund at the weekend due to illness, finished 16th in the individual event.
Due to the difficult preparation for the new season with some health setbacks, expectations of the Swiss team leader were not yet very high. However, Hartweg showed an appealing performance over the 20 km. With his two misses, which meant two penalty minutes, he lost 2:50 minutes on the all-Scandinavian podium.
Victory went to the Norwegian Johan-Olav Botn, who clearly relegated his compatriot Martin Uldal and the Swede Sebastian Samuelsson to the other places. The 26-year-old managed the perfect race with the best time and a flawless shooting.
In addition to Hartweg, two other Swiss athletes made it into the top 30: Sebastian Stalder (22nd) and Joscha Burkhalter (28th).
