Niklas Hartweg boosts morale in the singles in Kontiolahti despite 17th place. After a fall on his bike in the summer, including shoulder surgery and a forced break, his form is promising.
The man from Schwyz dropped out of the top ten with two misses in the last round. After 15 shots, he was in fifth place, just 21 seconds behind the best, and still had hopes of a top ranking.
Nevertheless, Hartweg would have signed for such a start to the season. His running performance, just 45 seconds behind the top ten over 15 km, is already pretty good. And he doesn't have to worry about shooting. The confidence is there and, with a bit of luck, 20 targets could have fallen.
The best result for Switzerland, 12th place, was somewhat surprisingly achieved by Joscha Burkhalter. The man from the Bernese Oberland came through with one mistake on the course, which was shortened to 15 km. For this, 45 seconds were added to his running time. Sebastian Stalder and Jeremy Finello missed out on the World Cup points.
Norway's Johannes Thingnes Bö was the fastest on the cross-country course. However, he missed out on victory by three seconds because he was unable to catch his compatriot Endre Strömsheim.
