The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is closing the door to summer sports at the Winter Olympics - at least for the next edition in four years' time.
Various summer sports federations and the organizers of the 2030 Winter Games in the French Alps had put forward the idea of integrating new disciplines such as cyclo-cross, cross-country running or gravel biking into the Winter Games. The decision on new sports or disciplines will not be made until the IOC Session in June. However, the Executive Committee decided that these would have to take place on snow or ice as usual.
This does not have to apply for the future. A working group was tasked with thinking in depth about the Olympic Games program.
