Switzerland's Kimmy Repond and Livia Kaiser started the free skate at the European Championships in Sheffield in 6th and 9th position respectively with faint hopes of a medal. In the end, however, both fell back.
Livia Kaiser did not show a good free skate. Of the triple jumps, she only managed the Rittberger twice. All the other triples, the flip or the toeloop, ended with ice touches or under-rotations. She dropped from 9th to 17th place.
The analysis of Kimmy Repond's performance is more complicated. She has already won bronze at the European Championships (2023) and finished 4th at the World Championships (2025). Repond competed in Sheffield for the first time after an eight-month injury break. Against this backdrop, Repond put in a super performance, although she ultimately also dropped one position from 6th to 7th place. Only two elements of her freestyle resulted in minor deductions. Kimmy Repond was accordingly delighted at the end of her routine. She fully achieved her goal of seeing her routine through to the end.
At the upcoming major events, the Winter Olympics and the World Championships, the Swiss can still improve.
The European Championship title went to Niina Petrokina from Estonia, who had already taken the lead after the short program. Loena Hendrickx (BEL) and Lara Gutmann (ITA) took silver and bronze.
