Jan Christen and Stefan Küng are among the losers in the final stage of the Tour of the Algarve.
The rider from Aargau had to give up the leader's jersey in the 20 km time trial, including the final climb, and the rider from Thurgau, a specialist in the fight against the clock, had no chance of winning the day.
The 2 km long ramp up to the finish with an average gradient of 9.1 percent up to Alto do Malhao ultimately gave the field clear contours. At the last intermediate time down in the valley, Küng was still fifth on the day, but then dropped back to 30th place.
Christen, who is better up the mountain, was five seconds faster in the final standings. At 1:17 minutes behind Jonas Vingegaard, the two-time winner of the Tour de France, the man in yellow slipped to 10th place in the overall classification. The Dane, however, won the five-day tour ahead of Christen's UAE teammate Joao Almeida from Portugal.
