None of the four Swiss quartets at the World Relay Championships in the Botswana capital Gaborone managed to qualify for the final on Saturday.
However, all four relay teams can still hope to finish in the top 12 on Sunday in order to secure a starting place for the 2027 World Championships. The women's 4x100 m quartet in particular finished in 9th place, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the final, which would have earned them a ticket to Beijing on Saturday. Chloé Rabac, Fabienne Hoenke, Léonie Pointet and Céline Bürgi ran a time of 43.11 seconds, just three thousandths of a second behind 8th place.
The men's 4x400 m relay team (Vincent Gendre, Lionel Spitz, Julien Bonvin and Dany Brand) set a Swiss record of 3:01.18 minutes. The quartet improved the national record from 1999 by 1.28 seconds. Nevertheless, this was only enough for 17th place in the heats. Another significant improvement would be needed to break into the top 12.
In the 4x100 m mixed relay in Botswana, Enrico Güntert, Ajla Del Ponte, Felix Svensson and Salomé Kora finished 16th in the preliminary heats in 41.49 seconds. The women's 4x400 m relay (Karin Disch, Iris Caligiuri, Salomé Hüsler, Annina Fahr) finished 20th in 3:34.37.
