The swimmer from Ticino won the 200 m dolphin in 1:50.17 ahead of the Polish twins Krzysztof and Michal Chmielewski.

Ponti thus leaves Poland with four European Championship medals, as he did two years ago. The 24-year-old had already won gold in the 50 m dolphin and 100 m medley. He missed out on another title in the 100 m dolphin by just 1 hundredth of a second.
