Noé Roth and Pirmin Werner win the eighth and ninth medals for Switzerland at the end of the Freestyle World Championships in the Engadine. The ski acrobats twirl to gold and bronze in aerials.
Roth is the successful defending champion and Werner wins his first individual medal at a title competition. Switzerland finishes the home World Championships in first place in the medals table.
Roth won with a dream score of 143.31 points. The American Quinn Dehlinger, who had already won silver behind Roth in Bakuriani in 2023, was the last athlete in the competition and had no chance of catching the Zug native.
Werner risked a lot with the Hurricane, an extremely difficult jump. The landing was not good, but as others also made mistakes, the man from Zurich still managed to win bronze with a low score of 107.12.
With gold, Switzerland displaced Japan from the top of the medal table at the Freestyle World Championships. Swiss-Ski is delighted with five gold medals.
The two 25-year-old Swiss athletes got the competition off to the best possible start. With 126.11 and 120.36 points, they achieved dream jumps, securing their place in the final of the top 6. This allowed them to play around with the level of difficulty, as the men have to perform three different jumps.
At the Olympic Games and World Championships, the mode differs from the World Cup. At the title competitions, the better of the first two flights decides who goes through to the superfinal of the top 6. In the battle for the medals, it starts from scratch again. Roth and Werner therefore used the second round to approach the maximum difficulty for the final with a basic jump.
The women's competition took place on Sunday without Swiss participation. Kaila Kuhn from the USA took gold. She had already won with the team.
