The Swiss gymnasts miss out on a medal in the all-around competition at the European Championships in Leipzig. Noe Seifert finishes the competition in 6th place.
Noe Seifert and Matteo Giubellini finished the qualification on Tuesday in 1st and 4th place. In the final, the Swiss were only able to finish 6th (Seifert) and 10th (Giubellini). With his points total from the qualification (81.898 points), Seifert would have won the silver medal.
However, the 26-year-old from Oftringen in the canton of Aargau still has to wait for an all-around medal. In 2022 and 2023, he finished 5th in the all-around. This time it could have been more, in the best-case scenario even the first Swiss all-around medal at major title competitions since Max Benker in 1957 (bronze).
The omens were good. Before the sixth and final apparatus, the high bar routine, Seifert was in 4th place after a race to catch up (12th at half-time). Seifert qualified for the apparatus final on high bar. His high bar routine from the qualification was one of the best that has been seen so far at the European Championships in Leipzig. Although his high bar routine on Thursday was not perfect, it was still very good. On his dismount, he had to touch the floor with his hand. The end of the medal dream.
The medals went to Turkey's Adem Asil (gold), France's Leo Saladino (silver) and Hungary's Krisztofer Meszaros (bronze).
