Lando Norris will start from pole position at the São Paulo Grand Prix. Max Verstappen has to start a race to catch up after 16th place in qualifying.

Alongside championship leader Norris, Kimi Antonelli in the Mercedes will start from the front row on Sunday. Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari was third ahead of world championship runner-up Oscar Piastri in the second McLaren.

World champion Max Verstappen did not make it past 16th place and surprisingly failed to finish the first race. In Sunday's Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver will now have to start a race to catch up if he is to avoid falling behind in the title race. After his start-finish victory in the sprint race, Norris is nine points ahead of Piastri and 39 points ahead of Verstappen.

Qualifying went differently for the two Sauber drivers, who had both damaged their cars in the sprint race in the afternoon. Nico Hülkenberg will start the race from 10th position - the German has never been better in a qualifying session this season. Gabriel Bortoleto, on the other hand, was unable to take part in qualifying. The local hero from Brazil wrecked his car so badly on the last lap of the sprint race that even the mechanics from Hinwil were unable to do anything about it.
