At the start of the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival, ESAF OC President Jakob Kamm called on spectators to show cohesion and humility. It was a "very emotional moment for him", he said in front of the 56,500 wrestling fans.
He said it filled him with pride to have this unique festival in the heart of this region. All the stands in the Glarnerland Arena with its 56,500 seats were filled early on Saturday morning for the celebratory speech. Kamm called on everyone to let themselves be carried away by this "indescribable ESAF atmosphere".
After Kamm's opening speech, the Swiss dialect rocker Golä took over and sang the Swiss national anthem together with a yodeling choir. The OC President called on those present to sing along fervently and with full humility. "Open your hearts, be proud of our country and grateful that we are all allowed to live here".
Without wasting much time, it was time to get down to business. With the traditional slogan "Manne ad Arbet" (Men to work), wrestling on the seven sawdust rings began to the minute.
