Sébastien Ogier is crowned World Rally Champion for the ninth time in Jeddah. The Frenchman thus equals the record held by his compatriot Sébastien Loeb.

Toyota driver Ogier finished in 3rd place in Saudi Arabia when Belgian Thierry Neuville won, which was enough for him to win the title. And he did so despite missing three races this season.

Ogier and his co-driver Vincent Landais, who had already won the championships from 2013 to 2018 and 2020 and 2021, thus beat Britain's Elfyn Evans, who still had a three-point lead before the final race of the season. However, Evans, who like Ogier drives for Toyota, did not finish higher than 6th place.

It would have been Evans' first title win, but instead he now has to settle for 2nd place for the fifth time in his career.
