Basel had only won the first game of the series 3-2 in the second overtime and after 88 minutes. On Sunday in Olten, Eric Faille decided the game for Olten in the 50th minute. And as in the entire quarter-final series against La Chaux-de-Fonds, Olten goalie Lucas Rötheli, the son of former international André Rötheli, played a leading role. Rötheli saved 37 shots out of 38.

Olten was missing Canadian Guillaume Asselin in Game 2. Asselin injured his foot in the first semi-final in Basel. In the six quarterfinal games against La Chaux-de-Fonds, Asselin had collected eleven points in six games. In Asselin's place, Slovakia's Stanislav Horansky made his first appearance since October 22, when he was injured in a game against Bellinzona.

The second semi-final game between Visp and Thurgau also ended 2:1. Visp prevailed 2:1 in the second overtime thanks to a goal by Adam Brodecki and took a 2:0 lead in the series. Visp is the only team remaining in the playoffs that is likely to be promoted to the National League.
