At the sailing competitions in Marseille, Sébastien Schneiter and Arno De Planta finish 6th in the "Medal Race" and 8th in the final classification.

In 6 of the 12 qualifying races, Schneiter/De Planta finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th, but there were also four finishes outside the top 14. Mistakes crept in: The Swiss had to complete more penalty loops during the Olympic regattas than during the entire three-year qualification phase.

The lack of consistency in the regattas ultimately resulted in a final classification for the Swiss that did not reflect their great potential, but at least earned them an Olympic diploma. "We had a great Olympic campaign together and sailed right at the front here in Marseille in difficult conditions. Unfortunately, we made too many mistakes at the end, which we paid for dearly. Overall, we can be satisfied with our performance," summarized Schneiter.

Maud Jayet showed a strong reaction to the unsuccessful start (16th place) the day before with a 4th and a 3rd place in the ILCA 6. The Geneva native was among the front runners in both races and coped well with the once again difficult wind conditions.

Yves Mermod and Maja Siegenthaler explored the whole spectrum of emotions in the 470 Mixed, which began its competition on Friday. They were disqualified in the first heat due to an early start, but won the second with aplomb. They must not allow themselves any more slip-ups in the rest of the regatta.

The windsurfing medal series with Elia Colombo from Ticino fell victim to the once again unstable wind conditions. They will be rescheduled for Saturday.
