With the start of the kiters, the last sailing disciplines have started their competition - Elena Lengwiler knows how to convince at the Olympic premiere. Maud Jayet is on course for a medal.

At first, patience was required once again: the eagerly awaited Olympic premiere of the Formula Kite class was delayed by several hours due to the waning mistral. But then the show began and the kiters flew across the water at over 30 knots (over 50 km/h).

Right in the middle of it all: Switzerland's Elena Lengwiler. The 28-year-old was unimpressed by the big event on her Olympic debut and surfed to strong 3rd, 6th, 1st and 20th places. "It was great," beamed Lengwiler. "After the first run, I really realized: now I'm an Olympic athlete." Elena Lengwiler is in an excellent 4th place in the overall standings.

Maud Jayet moves up to 3rd place

With two solid runs (7th and 8th place), ILCA 6 sailor Maud Jayet improved her already good starting position even further and is now in 3rd intermediate place. "I may have lost one or two places, but everything is very close at the moment and I didn't want to risk too much," analyzed the Geneva native. "The conditions were challenging again and I think tomorrow will also be about not making any big mistakes."

The only one who has managed to get through practically without any mistakes so far is the leader Marit Bouwmeester. The Dutchwoman, who has already won gold, silver and bronze at the Olympic Games, has a 26-point lead at the top. She can secure the gold medal early on Monday. There are two more runs on the program before the medal race for the top 10.

Yves Mermod and Maja Siegenthaler had a successful day in the 470 Mixed. The pair from Thun sailed to 4th and 7th place and thus improved to 10th place in the intermediate rankings.
