On Sunday, 4 January, the best Swiss athletes of the year will be honored at the Sports Awards in Zurich. The six finalists have now been chosen.
The twelve finalists represent eight different sports. Alpine skiing is particularly well represented. With last year's winner Lara Gut-Behrami and last year's winner Marco Odermatt, among others, it has five nominees.
Odermatt could win the award for the fifth time in a row. The four-time overall World Cup winner faces competition from within his own ranks from Loïc Meillard and Franjo von Allmen as well as from wrestling king Armon Orlik, top swimmer Noè Ponti and gymnast Noe Seifert.
In the women's category, Lara Gut-Behrami has already won the coveted trophy three times. In addition to the Ticino native, who is currently injured, freeskier Mathilde Gremaud, hurdler Ditaji Kambundji, mountain biker Alessandra Keller, ski racer Camille Rast and cyclist Marlen Reusser are also nominated.
The awards will be presented during a TV show in Zurich. The live show will be broadcast on all three national channels (including SRF 1 from 20:05). Viewers will be able to help decide who will receive the trophies via televoting. The six nominees were pre-selected by top Swiss athletes and the sports media.
Athletes who have delivered outstanding performances in the period from November 1, 2024 to October 31, 2025 were eligible for selection. Two-thirds of the results of the preselections were taken into account in the decision, while the televote counted for one-third.
In the live broadcast hosted by Fabienne Gyr and Rainer Maria Salzgeber, the winners in the categories "Team", "Paralympic Athlete", "Coach" and "MVP" will also be honored. The "SRF 3 Best Talent Sport" young talent award will also be presented to the most talented young Swiss athlete.
