The major reform with the new engine and chassis regulations will not take place in Formula 1 until 2026. However, the regulations will not be completely unchanged compared to the previous season.
The most important innovation in the sporting regulations is the abolition of the extra point for the fastest race lap, which has been awarded since 2019 if the driver finished the Grand Prix in the top 10.
This bonus caused some controversy because it was not uncommon for a late pit stop to be made in order to attack the fastest time again with fresh tires. Last year, for example, there were disputes after the Singapore Grand Prix because Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest race lap in Red Bull's sister car with no prospect of scoring championship points, thus snatching the extra points from McLaren, Red Bull's biggest rival in the title fight.
The rest of the points system remains unchanged, with the top 10 in a Grand Prix and the best eight in a sprint being rewarded.
What is new, however, is the introduction of "air conditioning", which will be linked to a cooling vest worn by the riders. The special cooling system will be mandatory at temperatures above 30.5 degrees Celsius.
There is a small change to the minimum weight. In order not to disadvantage taller riders and to prevent extreme diets, the minimum weight for riders including seat shell has been increased from 80 to 82 kilograms. Lighter riders must therefore carry additional ballast weight. This adjustment increases the minimum weight of the cars from 798 to 800 kilograms. If the new cooling system is used, the minimum weight even increases to 805 kilograms.
