Sven Michel and Alina Pätz's debut at the Mixed Doubles World Championships in Fredericton, Canada, was a failure. The 2022 World Championship runners-up were defeated 3:7 by Australia in the first match of the round robin.

Michel/Pätz were doomed by a triple in the second end and a double in the fourth end in the opening game. The Swiss champions were unable to erase the 2:5 deficit in the remaining four ends. After seven ends, they conceded defeat early.
The Swiss duo will continue with two matches on Sunday. The match against the Czech Republic is scheduled for 15:00 Swiss time, followed by Norway at 23:00.
With seven gold medals, Switzerland is the clear number one in the medal table at the Mixed Doubles World Championships, which were held for the first time in 2008.
