One day after winning the world championship title in the scratch race, the Zurich-based athlete was once again unstoppable in the velodrome in Rio de Janeiro. In the 200 meter sprint, Rigling qualified with the fastest time for the final of the best three riders, in which she ultimately doubled up.

In the one-kilometer race, Rigling picked up the pace early in order to give herself the best possible chance as an endurance athlete over the short distance. Sabrina Custodia da Silva and Maike Hausberger were unable to overtake the Swiss athlete over the four laps of the course. "The relief is huge and I'm extremely pleased that I was able to dominate the sprint as an endurance athlete. I rode the race in such a way that I was able to play to my strengths," said Rigling.

Laurent Garnier showed his best performance to date at a World Championships in the scratch race over ten kilometers on Saturday evening. In the final sprint, he kept up the pace of the leaders right up to the finish and finished sixth, just behind the top riders. The British rider Archie Atkinson secured the world championship title, with French favorite Gatien Le Rousseau in second place.
