World championship leader Oscar Piastri secures pole position for the Dutch GP at Zandvoort. The Australian McLaren driver is 12 thousandths faster than teammate Lando Norris in qualifying.

While the two McLaren-Mercedes were involved in a close race, world champion Max Verstappen had no chance of starting on the front row in front of his own fans. On his fastest lap, he lost 0.263 seconds to Norris, who confirmed the practice results in the Dutch dunes with his best time and will start from pole position for the fifth time this season.

The surprising Isack Hadjar in the Visa Red Bull and George Russell in the Mercedes finished 4th and 5th ahead of the two Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.

Sauber was unable to compete in the front half of the field. Nico Hülkenberg retired in 17th place in the first part of qualifying, while team-mate Gabriel Bortoleto made it one lap further and will start Sunday's race in 13th place.
