In a shootout in Columbus, Vancouver annoyingly missed out on a point that could ultimately be decisive for playoff qualification. The Canadians led 3:0 (after the first period), 4:3 (in the second intermission) and 5:4 (until three and a half minutes before the end), thanks in part to three assists from Zurich's Pius Suter, but in the end even had to chase a deficit.

After the 6-6 tie, however, none of the three Canucks scored in the penalty shootout and Suter was not among the shooters. Vancouver currently occupies 9th place in the West, four points behind the final playoff spot.

The Winnipeg Jets, who are in a duel with Washington for the best team in qualifying, have no such worries. The Canadians gave the New Jersey Devils no chance at home and won 4-0. Three Swiss players, Nino Niederreiter for Winnipeg and Nico Hischier and Timo Meier for New Jersey, were on the ice, none of them scoring.
