The day's victory in the first mountain stage of the six-day tour, which is part of the World Tour, was secured by local rider Jay Vine. The overall winner of 2023 from the UAE Emirates team finished ahead of his Ecuadorian team-mate and last year's winner Jhonatan Narvaez after 148 km and also took the lead in the overall classification.

Schmid won the sprint of the first chasing group 58 seconds behind and is in third place overall, 1:05 minutes behind. Joel Suter, the second Swiss starter, was part of a breakaway group on Thursday, but reached the finish more than twelve minutes behind.
