As expected, the first of two time trials at the Tour de France brings a change of leader. The Slovenian top favorite Tadej Pogacar replaces Mathieu van der Poel at the top of the overall standings.
Pogacar only had to admit defeat to Olympic and world time trial champion Remco Evenepoel in second place in the 33 km stage against the clock. The Belgian was 16 seconds ahead of Pogacar and lived up to his role as favorite on the flat terrain. Jonas Vingegaard disappointed in 13th place, 1:21 minutes behind.
