Despite a crash and a defect, Tadej Pogacar has taken a liking to the cobblestone ordeal at Paris-Roubaix. "I think I will be back. But I don't want to think about next year yet, I still have some goals before then," said the Slovenian road cycling world champion, who finished second on his debut in northern France on Sunday. Without his small crash, victory in the duel with Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel might have been possible.

He had never thought about the Tour de France, which starts in Lille a few kilometers from Roubaix in the summer, during the race. The Tour of France, which Pogacar has already won three times, is still a long way off. Before then, he still has a few goals. He wants to attack again next week, when the Ardennes triple Amstel Gold Race (April 20), Flèche Wallonne (April 23) and Liège-Bastogne-Liège (April 27) are on the agenda.

At least he won't be facing his great rival van der Poel there. The cyclo-cross world champion is taking a break. But he only has words of praise for Pogacar. "What he's doing is extraordinary. He is probably one of the best riders ever," said the Dutchman. "He's only 26, there's still a lot more to come."
