Tadej Pogacar wins the 6th stage of the Dauphiné Tour solo over 126.7 km from Valserhône to Combloux. As a reward, the 26-year-old Slovenian takes the overall lead.
Tadej Pogacar underlined his current exceptional position at the first mountain finish of this year's Tour of the Dauphiné. He attacked in his irresistible manner around 7.5 kilometers before the finish and left his rivals no chance. He distanced second-placed Dane Jonas Vingegaard by 61 seconds and third-placed German Florian Lipowitz by 1:22 minutes. The previous leader Remco Evenepoel from Belgium lost 1:50 minutes in fifth place.
Thanks to this demonstration of power, Pogacar is well on his way to winning the Dauphiné Tour for the first time. In the overall standings, first pursuer Vingegaard is 43 seconds behind, with Lipowitz eleven seconds behind. Evenepoel dropped back to 4th place, 1:22 minutes behind.
Thanks to the 97th victory of his career, Pogacar is now the most successful active rider together with the French sprinter Arnaud Démare. In addition, with his eighth win of the season, he dispelled the slight doubts that had arisen after his 4th place in the individual time trial on Wednesday.
The queen stage is on the program on Saturday. The 132.1 km section from Grand-Aigueblanche to Valmeinier features three climbs of the highest category. The finish is at 1840 meters.
