Pius Schwizer in the saddle for Vancouver during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris
Keystone
A police operation in Oensingen is causing a stir around the Swiss show jumper Pius Schwizer. The background is likely to be a financial emergency for the Olympic bronze medal winner.
According to eyewitnesses, the Solothurn cantonal police transported several horses away from the Klushof on Thursday afternoon. Schwizer confirmed the operation to the newspaper "Blick", but did not want to comment in detail on the background.
According to the newspaper, Schwizer has run into financial difficulties since the coronavirus pandemic. Creditors are said to have made claims amounting to around CHF 600,000. The 63-year-old emphasizes that he is working on repayment, but asks for patience. Schwizer, who won bronze with the Swiss team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, was not present at the event itself due to a tournament.
