Simon Moser has to end his career. The SCB forward is suffering from back and hip problems. After an operation, it is clear that he will no longer be able to play at the professional level, as the club announces.
The last time Simon Moser was on the ice was on October 18, when the Bernese lost away against Genève-Servette 1:2 after overtime. "It's incredibly difficult for me to end my career," Moser said in the SCB communiqué.
"The SCB was more than just a club for me - it was my home." He is grateful for all the moments he was able to experience. But "now my focus is on my health".
Brief detour to North America
Moser, who grew up with the SCL Tigers, made his debut for the Emmentalers in the top division in the 2008/09 season. In the summer of 2013, he moved to North America to join the NHL organization of the Nashville Predators, for whom he played six games. However, he played the majority of the season in the AHL for the Milwaukee Admirals.
From 2014, Moser was under contract with the SCB. He won the championship with Bern in 2016, 2017 and 2019 and also won the Cup twice (2015 and 2019). In 2019, the Bernese player was named the most valuable player of the playoffs.
Two World Championship silver medals with Switzerland
The long-serving SCB captain (2017 to 2024) played 895 games in the National League, 614 of them in a Bernese kit. "Simon has always fought tirelessly for the SCB and played a decisive role in shaping our club on and off the ice," said SCB Sports Director Martin Plüss.
Moser played 184 international games on the ice for the Swiss national team. He was there in 2013 and 2018 when Switzerland won silver at the World Championships.
