Public prosecutor's office closes investigation into Furrer case

The cantonal police and the Zurich public prosecutor's office conducted an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident involving 18-year-old Muriel Furrer in September 2024. The public prosecutor's office was unable to establish any third-party involvement in the racer's fall, as announced on Monday. There were no indications that other race participants or third parties were partly responsible for the fall.

There was also no evidence of a criminally relevant breach of duty in connection with securing the course or providing emergency assistance after the accident, according to the statement. The discontinuation order is not yet legally binding.

The junior women's cyclist crashed on a descent in the municipality of Küsnacht ZH during a race at the World Cycling Championships.
