Philippe Maillet decided the overtime after 78:44 minutes. The Canadian deflected an unstoppable shot from the blue line. It was Maillet's second goal of the game.
Ambri-Piotta saved themselves in extremis in the 2nd round of the play-in against Kloten. After the 2:1 in the first leg, the Leventines held on to a 1:1 draw in Rapperswil until the 47th minute. Then Dominic Lammer and Nicklas Jensen put the Lakers 3:1 ahead within eight minutes. Three minutes before the end, Ambri's goalie Janne Juvonen came off the ice for an extra attacker. And indeed: Chris DiDomenico reduced the deficit to 2:3 74 seconds before the end of regulation time, thus saving Ambri-Piotta in overtime.
Ambri also scored shortly before the end of overtime. Maillet scored 76 seconds before the end of the first overtime period.
For the Lakers, a season characterized by ups and downs ended in sudden death. The Lakers led the National League standings at the beginning of October, occupied 2nd and 3rd place for a long time in October and fell back to 12th place in December, which led to a change of coach from Stefan Hedberg to Johan Lundskog.
