The Ecuadorian rider from EF Education-EasyPost is suffering from a gastrointestinal infection, as the American team announced on its website.

The 32-year-old Carapaz finished 3rd overall in this year's Giro d'Italia. In 2019, he was the first Ecuadorian to win the Tour of Italy. In 2021, he won the Olympic road race and finished third in the Tour de France. Last year, he won the mountains jersey at the Tour.
