Flurina Rigling secures silver in the women's road race at the Paralympics. The 27-year-old from Zurich was only beaten by Keiko Sugiura from Japan. Bronze went to the American Clara Brown.

Rigling rode a tactically clever race. For most of the 56.8 km distance, she stayed at the back of a six-strong leading group that formed early on. This meant that the only C2 athlete in the leading group had the necessary reserves of strength in the final sprint.

After missing out on bronze by three tenths in the time trial on Wednesday, she now rode to her second precious metal in Paris. Rigling had opened the Swiss medal haul, which now includes 18 precious metals, with bronze in the individual pursuit over 3000 m on the track.
