Primoz Roglic wins the Tour of Catalonia for the second time since 2023.
In the seventh and final stage over 88.2 km, the 35-year-old Slovenian attacked a good 20 kilometers before the finish on the third ascent of Montjuic near the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona and could no longer be caught.
He took 14 seconds off second-placed Belgian Laurens De Plus. The Spaniard Juan Ayuso, who had started the last stage as leader, lost 19 seconds to Roglic and had to let him pass him in the overall classification. 3rd place overall also went to a Spaniard, Enric Mas. There were no Swiss riders at the start.
"I'm not a sprinter, I wanted to decide it on the mountain," said Roglic. "After the second bonus sprint I had to do something. I really enjoyed it here." Roglic wants to tackle the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France this year. He won the former in 2023 and has never won the Tour of France overall. He now wants to change that.
