31-year-old Roman Röösli from Lucerne and Andrin Gulich from Zurich, who is six years younger, are retiring from top-class sport. The rowers won Olympic bronze in the double sculls in Paris last summer.
Rumors about the future of the two top rowers have been circulating since the summer games. Röösli took a break from top-class sport immediately after the Olympics. Towards the end of 2024, the decision to retire from top-level sport had matured.
Andrin Gulich also gave it some thought. Gulich is currently finishing his studies and decided to quit independently of Röösli. They talked about the future together, but decided individually, Gulich told Swiss television.
Röösli and Gulich have rowed together in the double sculls since 2023. The boat harmonized perfectly: in the 2023 season, they won gold at both the World and European Championships. In 2024, they won the World Cup. They also crowned their success with an Olympic medal in Paris. Röösli won his first medal at his third Olympic Games in Paris.
