Sarah Höfflin wins silver in the Big Air Ski Freestyle at the World Championships in the Engadine. On the outrun of the Olympic ski jump in St. Moritz, she wins her first World Championship medal and the seventh for Swiss-Ski at the home World Championships.
The 34-year-old from Geneva got the competition off to a perfect start. After the first of three runs - two of which are scored - she was in the lead. She was the only one to break the 90-point mark. This meant that the seven competitors, above all the 17-year-old season's best Flora Tabanelli from Italy, were challenged.
While the Italian fell, the Geneva native laid the foundations for the medal with a clean second (safety) jump (80.25). Flora Tabanelli, who had at least finished on the podium in every competition this winter, kept her nerves under control and overtook Höfflin, who was the last competitor to take off. The Romande risked a lot, but came down.
Sarah Höfflin was at her peak seven years ago when she won gold in slopestyle at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang and triumphed in big air at the X-Games. So far, she has never made it to the World Championships. Mathilde Gremaud, the 2025 world champion in slopestyle, surprisingly failed to qualify. She too would have had everything she needed to win.
