Swiss rowers Kai Schätzle and Raphaël Ahumada celebrate their first World Cup victory together.
The new double scull team won in Varese, Italy, in 6:11.81 minutes ahead of locals Niels Torre/Gabriel Soares and New Zealanders Finlay Hamill/Benjamin Mason.
After joining forces for this season and the new Olympic cycle with a view to Los Angeles 2028, Schätzle/Ahumada finished sixth at the European Championships in Plovdiv at the end of May. Now their teamwork was already working perfectly. They finished eight tenths ahead of their closest rivals.
Jonah Plock and Patrick Brunner also made it onto the podium in northern Italy. The duo finished in 3rd place in the coxless pair behind the New Zealanders Oliver Welch/Benjamin Taylor and the Croatians Martin Sinkovic/Valent Sinkovic.
