Scottie Scheffler makes it exciting at first - and then wins his third Major title in an extremely confident manner. The world number one triumphs at the US PGA Championship in Charlotte.

Scheffler played a final round of 71 at the Quail Hollow Club and ended up winning by five strokes ahead of US compatriots Harrison English, Bryson DeChambeau and Davis Riley, who shared second place with 278 strokes each. Scheffler, the Olympic champion in Paris, had already won the Masters in Augusta in 2022 and 2024.

The 28-year-old went into the final round in the state of North Carolina on Monday night Swiss time with a six-shot lead. It was still five strokes before hole number 6 - but two bogeys from Scheffler and three birdies from Jon Rahm ensured that the two golfers were level when Scheffler teed off on hole 10. But then Scheffler took control again, played three birdies on the last holes and took the win. Rahm, on the other hand, slipped back to a tie for 8th place.

"I did a good job by staying patient on the first nine holes. I didn't play at my best level," said Scheffler. "I pulled out a lead on the last nine holes and finished the job," he added. Scheffler collected 3.42 million US dollars for the 15th trophy of his career on the PGA Tour.

Rory McIlroy, who completed the career Grand Slam with his victory at the Masters in Augusta in April, did not get up to speed this week. He played a final round of 72 and finished in 47th place.
