Sandro Schmid shoots Fribourg-Gottéron to a 4-3 penalty shootout win against Kloten - for the third time this season.
All good things come in threes. After two consecutive defeats against Rapperswil-Jona and Davos, Fribourg returned to winning ways - even after losing both home games against Kloten last season. In the end, Sandro Schmid scored the decisive goal in the penalty shootout - he had already scored in the first two shootouts, which he also won. Reto Berra, who will move to Kloten next year, did not have to be beaten.
In overtime, Tyler Morey had missed the match puck and was also unable to capitalize on a subsequent overtime spell.
For 44 minutes, the two teams had almost carelessly squandered their best chances, with only Yannick Rathgeb's long-range shot through heavy traffic finding its way into the goal in the middle third. Then, however, the puck was suddenly in the net after far fewer dangerous actions. Gottéron took a 2:0 lead through Jacob de la Rose, but Kloten equalized within 117 seconds through Tyler Morley and Petteri Puhakka.
Fribourg regained the lead through a remarkable individual effort by defenseman Michael Kapla for just over a minute and a half before Robert Leino tied the game at 3-3.
