The Swiss line-up for the World Championships in Valais comprises seven elite riders each for cross-country and short track. Nino Schurter will be making his second last appearance in front of a home crowd.
The retirement of Schurter, who will bid farewell to the big stage after the World Cup event in Lenzerheide following the World Championships, is fitting at a time when a generational change is underway.
In the men's World Cup, Fabio Püntener is the best-ranked Swiss athlete, not one of those who have already passed. The 25-year-old from Uri, who has already finished third twice this season, is in fifth place. Nicole Koller and Alessandra Keller have made the strongest impression from a Swiss perspective in the women's event so far. The Zurich native, who is always in the top ten, and the Nidwalden native are ranked 2nd and 4th in the overall standings.
Switzerland is represented at the World Championships in its own country with a very large squad. A total of 47 female and 72 male racers are registered for the competitions in seven disciplines.
