Strong Finn: Hannes Björninen joins the SCL Tigers for the upcoming season
Keystone
The SCL Tigers are strengthening their roster for the upcoming season with the Olympic and world champion Hannes Björninen. The Emmental team has announced that the Finn has signed a two-year contract.
Hannes Björninen scored the winning goal against the Russian team in the final third of Finland's 2022 Olympic victory in Beijing. However, the 29-year-old center is first and foremost a two-way forward with strong defensive qualities.
Björninen has played the last three seasons in Sweden's top league, most recently for Örebro. This means that the Tigers will have four Finnish Olympic and world champions on their roster next season, including Björninen, forwards Harri Pesonen and Saku Mäenalanen as well as assistant coach Jukka Varmanen.
Björninen was able to familiarize himself with the ice in Langnau last week. He was part of the Finnish team that beat Switzerland 1-0 on penalties as part of the Euro Hockey Tour.
