Scotty James remains the king of the Laax superpipe. The 31-year-old snowboarder from Australia wins the Laax Open for the third time in a row and for the fifth time in total.
With a brilliant 98.75 points from his second run on Saturday evening, James held his own against the five athletes from Japan and two Americans, including the highly talented Alessandro Barbieri, the 17-year-old protégé of former Swiss national coach Pepe Regazzi and top scorer in the previous day's qualification. Second place went to New Zealand's surprise man Campbell Melville Ives, who was only robbed of his first World Cup victory by James, who started last. James' compatriot Valentino Guseli came third.
Pat Burgener, the only Swiss in the final of the top twelve, who has been competing for Brazil since this season, jumped to 6th place in the top-class field. Jonas Hasler, Jan Scherrer, David Hablützel and the other Swiss athletes failed to qualify on Friday, as did Isabelle Lötscher in the women's event.
South Korea's Choi Gaon secured her fourth World Cup victory in the women's event. The 17-year-old won the Asian-dominated final ahead of 16-year-old Japanese skier Rise Kudo and Chinese skier Cai Xuetong, who is twice her age.
