Jonas Vingegaard continues to have the 109th Giro firmly under control. After the first of three weeks, the two-time Tour de France winner may not be leading the overall classification, but it should only be a matter of time before the captain of the Visma-Lease a Bike team snatches the pink leader's jersey from the young Portuguese rider Afonso Eulalio

Eulalio lost a further 41 seconds on Vingegaard before the second rest day, but still has a lead of 2:24 minutes on the Dane.

On Sunday, Vingegaard also celebrated his well-deserved victory in the second difficult mountain finish of this Tour of Italy. He reached the finish in the Corno alle Scale ski area with a lead of twelve seconds over the Austrian Felix Gall, who had already taken second place in the mountain finish up to the Blockhaus on Friday. Vingegaard's cushion over his closest rival for overall victory has thus grown to 35 seconds.

The decision for the day's victory was made on the last of the almost eleven kilometer long final climb, when Vingegaard launched the decisive attack. Gall was no longer able to react. The duo had previously caught up with the Italian breakaway rider Giulio Ciccone.

After the rest day, the race continues on Tuesday in Tuscany with the 42 km individual time trial from Viareggio to Massa.
