A new broom that sweeps well, one that is already worn out and three home wins. These are the facts from Tuesday's four National League games.

Lugano slumps

Lugano's brief high with new head coach Uwe Krupp quickly evaporated. The crisis summit in Geneva was a reflection of the German's tenure in the Sottoceneri so far. The Luganesi led 2:0 at half-time, but the glory did not last. In the 46th minute, Dmytro Timashov put Geneva ahead for the first time with a wonderful solo effort, and Lugano had no answer to the 4:2 scored by birthday boy Sakari Manninen (32). Under Krupp, the Bianconeri won four of their first five games, and one of five since then. As a result, they are back in second last place with six games to go, just behind Servette.

Biel overcomes the ZSC curse

EHC Biel beat the ZSC Lions for the first time since April 2023 and their success in the semi-final series. The three eminently important points in the battle to qualify for the play-in were secured thanks to a double strike from Fabio Hofer and Nicholas Müller at the start of the middle third and the 4:2 by the Swede Lias Andersson in the 44th minute. The champions, who lost for the third time in a row and increasingly lost sight of their qualification win, were only able to reduce the deficit in the second-last minute.

Rapperswil-Jona continues to lose ground

Last year's play-off finalists Lausanne are well on their way to winning the qualifiers for the first time in the club's history. The Vaud team took another step forward with a hard-fought 4:2 win against the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers. Damien Riat and Ahti Oksanen turned a 2:2 into a 4:2 in the last 15 minutes. The Lakers are in danger of missing out on the play-in after their sixth defeat in the last seven games, just like last year.

Successful debut for Liniger

With Zug head coach Dan Tangnes recovering from back surgery, assistant Michael Liniger took over the EVZ helm in Davos for the first time. Tangnes' successor from next season saw his team twice come back from two goals down (0:2 and 2:4). Lino Martschini made it 4-4 with 65 seconds left in regulation time in double overtime. In the end, Liniger was able to celebrate two points as Zug won the penalty shoot-out, their first in the current championship. In regulation time, Davos' Adam Tambellini and Zug's Andreas Wingerli had distinguished themselves as double-goal scorers. The Grisons suffered their first home defeat after five wins in a row in their own arena.
