HC Sierre has regained the lead in the ice hockey championship ahead of the New Year. Sierre defeated the GCK Lions 5:1 in front of 2582 spectators and received support from cantonal rivals Visp, who beat Thurgau 3:1 in Weinfelden.

Thurgau conceded its second defeat in a row against Visp in the Old Year's week. On Sunday, the Thurgau team already lost 2:5 in Basel, winning only four games in the last nine rounds. At the start of the season, Thurgau had won twelve and seven games in a row.
