Sierre reached the final of the then NLB three times in a row from 2004 to 2006. After going bankrupt in 2013, the Valais team returned to the second-highest league in 2019. Now, with coach Chris McSorley, they are aiming for their first Swiss League title since the playoffs were introduced in 1985/86.

Sierre won the fifth semi-final game against Olten at home 2:1 after overtime and decided the best-of-7 series 4:1 in its favor. The decisive goal was scored by Stéphane Patry in the 74th minute.

Visp responded to the 1:7 defeat in La Chaux-de-Fonds on Friday with a 5:1 win in front of their home crowd and now lead the series 3:2. Andy Rytz (23rd), Dario Burgener (25th) and Noah Fuss (26th) increased the lead to 4:0 with three goals in 178 seconds. This was the preliminary decision. The Valais team now need one more win to lift the Swiss League championship trophy, as they did last year. Unlike Sierre, both Visp and La Chaux-de-Fonds are eligible for promotion to the National League.
