Qualification winners Sierre take the lead in the first game of the Swiss League play-off final against La Chaux-de-Fonds. The Valais team celebrated a 6:3 home win.
Unlike La Chaux-de-Fonds, Sierre, who are not eligible for promotion, laid the foundation for their victory in the first 24 minutes, in which coach Chris McSorley's team took a 3-0 lead, with Mathieu Vouillamoz scoring twice. The hosts made it 1:0 and 2:0 within 39 seconds of each other in the 5th minute.
After Neuchâtel had reduced the deficit to 2:3 (33'), the Valais team pulled three goals ahead again in the 43rd minute with Samuel Asselin's 5:2. Vouillamoz also scored the final goal to make it 6:3 (59').
Sierre had won all five direct duels against the Neuchâtel team in qualifying, but lost the cup final. The series continues on Tuesday in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
