Zurich para-cyclist Flurina Rigling won the silver medal in the kilometer time trial on the first day of the Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro.
With a time of 1:20.299, the 29-year-old Rigling missed the world record by just 27 hundredths. Brazil's Sabrina Custodia da Silva secured victory with the world's fastest time of 1:20.020. Bronze went to Germany's Maike Hausberger.
This is Rigling's twelfth World Championship medal on the track since her first participation in 2022. The Zurich native has medal chances in three other disciplines until Sunday. Her showpiece discipline, the individual pursuit, will be replaced by an elimination race at these World Championships.
